3D Logotype
Fall 2024.
An example of a 3D logo, originally intended for use as a splash screen for my website, now my favorite example of hand lettered type that I’ve done thus far.
Shown is the finished product, designed for a dark blue background.
Process from start to finish.
Preliminary sketch with shading and contour ideas
First edits to form; smoothing and weight of letters
Final edits to forms; shading and lighting color ideas
Edit viewing angle, determine material properties, set up light sources with predetermined colors and angles.
Translate into vector illustration via Adobe Illustrator
Second pass of edits, redrawing a few elements completely
3D extrusion via Adobe Illustrator (inflate extrusion)
Final viewing angle, increase contrast of light and dark. Add a second layer over-top with more dramatic shadows to further increase contrast.
A bonus attempt to take the letterform into Blender.
I wanted to make it look transparent and mess around with world settings in order to make it look more slimy.
I couldn’t do it this time, but I’m gonna try again! I had lots of fun experimenting.
